We are HIRING: Programme Manager: Refugee and Migrants Rights

LHR is a vibrant human rights organisation with a proud history of human rights activism and public interest litigation in South Africa. LHR is seeking an experienced human rights lawyer to lead its Refugee and Migrant Rights Programme, based in Johannesburg or Pretoria.

Operating from Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban and Musina, the Refugee and Migrant Rights Programme is the largest specialist programme that advocates, strengthens and enforces the rights of asylum-seekers, refugees and migrant workers in South Africa.  The role entails management of a large staff complement – including attorneys, candidate attorneys, support staff and volunteers/interns.  The successful candidate will be an experienced manager with a proven interest in public interest litigation and rights protection.

Reporting to the National Director, the Programme Manager provides leadership and strategic management in key programmatic areas, which include refugee protection, strategic litigation, immigration detention, statelessness and policy advocacy. The manager provides day-to-day supervision and mentoring of legal and programme staff and coordinates legal research and drafting reports for advocacy purposes.

He/she will develop relationships with refugee and migrant communities, government, international organisations like the UNHCR, civil society and the media. The incumbent will be responsible for fundraising and is required to represent LHR at various regional and international forums.

LHR is committed to transformation and applications from previously disadvantaged candidates are encouraged. To apply, send a short CV and motivational cover letter to Elias Mabena at elias [at] lhr [dot] org [dot] za by 27 May 2016
